What to Do When You’re Newly Engaged

Updated: Mar 13, 2019

Congratulations! IT finally happened…your sweetie popped the question—this is the big moment you’ve been waiting for! You might have ugly cried, felt like you were in a dream, or just spazzed out… but either way…You’ve got a shiny ring on your finger and you’re bubbling with excitement and emotion.

While you’ll have a lot to think about and plan for between now and your wedding day, there’s plenty of time for that a little later. There are a few things we recommended you do right after the engagement.

1. CELEBRATE YOU!

Don’t forget to enjoy this time. Get your family and closest friends together for a celebratory dinner or drinks. If you prefer one-on-one time with your fiancé, schedule a date night. Whatever you choose, your engagement is worth stopping to celebrate this journey you are about to embark upon.

2. GET TO THE NAIL SHOP!

As a newly engaged bride-to-be, there’s no avoiding showing off your engagement ring. Getting a fresh manicure will make you feel more polished for inevitable photos and grabs of your hand over the next few weeks. Trust me…it’s gonna happen!

3. GET YOUR RING SIZED & INSURED

There’s nothing worse than a ring that rolls… What I mean is, make sure to get it sized appropriately or at least get a ‘ring guard’ until you can have it sized appropriately at your local jeweler. Be sure to enroll in jewelry insurance too. Better safe than sorry!

And finally…

4. JUST BREATHE

Before worrying about the actual wedding planning process, try to savor the newly engaged stage. Call and tell your loved ones, take a bunch of photos, post to social media, have a celebratory moment, and just enjoy being a fiancé for a bit. That’s right…you have a FIANCE’…a whole F-I-A-N-C-E’!

Right now, you can focus on enjoying the moment of just being engaged…Who am I fooling, that’s easier said than done!. After all, this is the day you have been waiting for ever since you understood what it words, ‘BRIDE’, ‘WEDDING’, and ‘MARRIAGE’ meant. If you just got engaged, here’s what to do right now! In fact, as a bonus, check out this wedding checklist of items to help you get started. See details below! Be sure to hire a wedding planner/coordinator to help you navigate this journey and nurture you through the process to help alleviate some of your stress!
